The Ondo State Government has acquired some vehicles for the security organisations as part of the measures to tackle criminal activities in the state, particularly in the local governments.
The vehicles which included pickups vans, DFM buses and light trucks from the CIG Motors Nigeria, distributors of GAC Motor in the country, were procured for the 18 Local Government Areas of the state and the state Amotekun corps .
Speaking at the ceremony, the governor urged the management of CIG Motors to quickly set up an aftersales workshop in Ondo State, as he said the government was posed to purchase more vehicles.
The governor proposed to provide land for the after-sales workshop.
Akeredolu averred that the vehicles were bought from money saved from the local government allocation from the federation account after payment of workers.
He said, “To the chairmen, I want to congratulate you, under the able leadership of the deputy governor and your commissioner. They have done well. You chose to find a way for us to be able to buy these vehicles. I advised that you save up for some time and we arrange for these vehicles to come and you complete payment in instalment.
“I am glad that you only have one instalment to complete it now. These vehicles are not for any individual. We have not bought vehicles for any individual. We have bought these vehicles for each local government, and for the chairman to use. Use these vehicles very well.”
Expressing appreciation to the state government, the Chairman of CIG Motors, Chief Diana Chen, confirmed that the company would set up the after-sales service centre in the state.
Represented by the General Manager, Commercial and Group Head Communications, Jubril Arogundade, the chairman said, “The importance of today’s mission being the handover of these security pickups is one that is highly regarded in our company’s vision, to become the automobile company of choice for organisations and individuals who are interested in dealing with authenticity.
“As part of our drive to deliver in all capacity, we will be setting up an after-sales service center in Ondo State.”
According to him , the deal marked a new milestone for CIG Motors Nigeria as they set sail for a new course with collaboration with the state government, which took delivery of the vehicles.
